At around 4:20AM, a line of severe thunderstorms impacting the Hudson Valley and New York City strengthened and organized a little more, organizing into a hook echo. It started to cause severe hail around Hudson Valley, while high wind gusts were reported in New York City. At 4:32AM, the first tornado was reported, a small EF1 that impacted Bear Mountain. The squall then produced more tornadoes while staying at the spot; it never moved from the spot. While then, the hook echo strengthened into New Jersey, going slightly south. The hook echo then remained at the current position it would be in. At 1:34PM, the strongest tornado of this squall was recorded. This storm continued to make tornadoes until 10:49PM, where the last tornado dissipated. Overall, there were 46 tornadoes produced by this hook echo, 3 of which were notable. There was two recorded EF4s and one EF5. This outbreak caused billions of dollars in damage, especially when one took a path straight through New York City.
